Wind Turbine installed summer 2009
Ross and Gail MacDonald, of Janvrin’s Island, just completed the
installation of a Skystream 3.7 marine grade 2.4 kilowatt wind turbine.
Appleseed Energy installed the windmill on a 45' galvanized tilting
monopole tower. This unit is capable of providing 50%-100% of an
average household's electricity needs. It produces 400 kilowatt hours
of electricity in an average 12mph wind speed, and can produce up to
900 kilowatt hours in a month. The foundation is formed reinforced
concrete approximately 10 cubic yards. The turbine has wireless
communication software that lets the user see in "real-time" what the
turbine is producing, it lets the user log data for specified
timeframes, and troubleshoot the turbine. Scheduled maintenance
consists of a yearly visual and audio inspection, (look and listen to
the turbine to make sure there are no problems), and nothing else.
Ross
and Gail have their Skystream 3.7 windmill hooked into the Nova Scotia
power grid through the Nova Scotia Power Corp’s net-metering program.
Under net metering, a system owner receives retail credit for at least
a portion of the electricity they generate. Most electricity meters
accurately record in both directions, allowing a no-cost method of
effectively banking excess electricity production for future credit.
Appleseed Energy (www.appleseedenergy.com)
services Cape Breton Island, Antigonish County, and Guysborough County.
They are a full service green energy installer, consultant, and
maintenance provider. Appleseed Energy provides green energy off-grid
and net-metering solutions for cabins, residences, marine, businesses,

The Nova Scotia Wind Atlas (www.nswindatlas.ca)
shows that Appleseed Energy’s target audience has excellent wind
potential which offers customers a greater return on investment than
most locations around the world.
