Rebates and Incentives:

Federal Rebate Programs through ecoENERGY
Certain solar domestic hot water (SDHW) systems are eligible under the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program. The SDHW grant can range from $1250 for a single family home to a maximum of $12,500 in a 20-unit MURB

Efficiency Nova Scotia Solar Incentives

Solar Water Heating

Efficiency Nova Scotia provides a $1,250 rebate on new residential solar domestic water heating systems. These use the sun's energy to heat water and are best used to pre-heat water for domestic water heating.

Keep in mind that you can also make other complimentary upgrades to your solar water heating system like low-flow showerheads, heat traps, pipe insulation and water tank insulation.

If you have an electric hot water system, you may be eligible for an additional $1,250 rebate

Solar Air Heating

Solar air heating systems act as space heaters and typically offset 1 or 2 baseboards worth of electricity. Efficiency Nova Scotia provides a rebate on residential solar air systems. Efficiency Nova Scotia provides a $500 rebate on solar air systems.

Nova Scotia Power Net Metering Program

To provide more options when it comes to renewable energy, Nova Scotia Power has launched a new program called “Net Metering”. Residential and commercial customers are now able to connect small renewable energy generating units (100 kilowatts or less) to Nova Scotia Power's electrical grid.

The program provides Nova Scotians with a risk free way of meeting their own energy needs from renewable sources while still having the security of being able to draw from the 
provincial power grid when needed.

Farm Investment Fund

The Farm Investment Fund (FIF) supports sustainable growth in Nova Scotia farm
businesses by providing investment for projects that enhance economic viability, farm and food safety, and promote environmental stewardship.

Program Objectives

* enhance skills of farm business owners and their employees;
* develop marketing and value-added opportunities;
* increase awareness and compliance in areas of farm and public protection;
* improve the level of environmental management.

Category G - Environmental Farm Stewardship Program
Applicants can receive up to $50,000 in federal funding over the lifetime of the Agreement (2009-2013) for Beneficial Management Practices. Projects in BMP 31 and BMP 32 combined cannot exceed $15,000 in federal funding over the life of the Agreement (2009-2013). Other caps and limits vary by project and BMP. Please refer to each BMP for specific requirements.

To access the federal funding (Category G)
a. applicants must have a completed Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) at the time of application to access federal funding for all Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs);
b. all projects will require an assessment of environmental impacts (Canadian Environmental Assessment Act [CEAA] equivalent).

Payment Recovery Criteria
Financial contributions under this Program may be repayable if it is demonstrated that funds have been used for purposes or projects other than those approved in the agreement. The applicant will also be ineligible to apply to the program for the following two program years.

Provincial Funding
Funding claimed through this program by an applicant may be used to offset any debt(s) the applicant has owing to the Crown in Right of the Province of Nova Scotia.

Federal Funding
Funding claimed through this program by an applicant may be used to offset any debt(s) the applicant has owing to the Crown in Right of Canada.

Note: No more than 75% Federal/Provincial funding can be received for any project regardless of source. Applicants are required to disclose their funding sources.
